Andrew W. Moncus

I guess my (step)granddaddy Moncus will tie into your line eventually. Andrew W. Moncus, born abt 1890 or so. Lived in Clay Co, AL. Married 1st to Ethel Cooley and then in 1937 he married (2nd) my grandmother Willie Mae White (she was 1st married to Henry Nolen Hodnett who died young). Andrew died in a nursing home in Roanoke AL in 1958. He was a super grandpa! Like your page a lot.

Moncus Name

Hi. I live in LaGrange, Ga and Moncus is my surname. It's great to see this name elsewhere in the country. Would love to learn more about the family, will keep tabs here to see what I can learn. My father (B 1920) was Thomas Talmadge Moncus, II and his father was the first. I only know his father's name, Robert. Interesting tale: my father, Jack, had a first cousin here who was called Baby until he went into the first grade. When they asked for his name, and he told them it was Baby, they said that wouldn't do, and his parents let him choose his own name - - he chose Margaret Elizabeth. This was my "Uncle Marg" - one of my favorites who died recently. Thanks for letting me say hello.

Oops

My father's name was Jack Thomas and his father was Thomas Talmadge. My BROTHER is Thomas Talmadge the II and his son, my nephew, Tal, is Thomas Talmadge the III. Sorry for the mistake. I just saw my grandfather in the listing - wow. Makes me feel good. Thanks again.

Munkers family name

I married a 'Munkers'. I am confident Mel Munkers grew tired of correcting his family-name Spelling of 'Munkres' and changed it for that reason -- he
was a practical man. I shall show my wife your
page, she will love it. We are from Oregon.

Munkus Family

Kim:
This website has been a God send to me. I have been researching the Munkus family off and on for several years, always ending up with a blanks! My mother did not know very much about her fathers family (his name is listed on your page, in the line, as BC Moncus), as he left home when he was 9 years old and had never returned. I kept asking my mother is possibly his families name was spelled differently, but she said that as far as she knew, his family was all spelled the same. I have some stories to share with you about the MONCUS family, and can give you the names birth, death info about BC MUNKUS line. I would love to find out if I can get more info from you, as I also have a web page w/approx 1300 names listed in it. I can't wait to add the rest of the Moncus line to my family tree. Hope we might have an easy way to do this, because it would be quite a bit of typing for me to add them all in by hand, although I am more than willing to do this. I would also

Munkus family tree

I enjoyed reading all the info you have compilied on the Munkus Family. I gave some of this info to a relative I met at Brunner Moncus' house in Randolph Co. Alabama. I have a copy of a land grant for William Munkus dated 1764 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia for 247 acres. He is mentioned in another land grant in 1770 with a John Williams for 215 acres. It appears that the original spelling of the Munkus name was "Munkus" according to the handwritten land grants of 1764.

More Munkers

Hi - You have a great Web page. My Munkers ancestors lived in Buchanan Co., MO.
Sarah Jane Munkers married Isaac Lynch and they moved to MO.
On a map of Surry, Co NC I found William Munkes listed as land owner in 1789. Guess he was living there then - not sure when he left VA. Keep up the good work on the web page.
Carol
(
Note from Kim) Carol, I think the William you found in Surry was Old Will's son or grandson.

Monkres/Munkers/Munkus/Muncus, et.al

Hello, Kim. We have a common ancestor in Old Wm. I have been researching this family for a few years now, and with the help of Kent Wellington (Kentwell@aol.com) and Gerry Munkres Davis, Loleda of MO, Gene Monkres of Arlington, TX have been able to put a few facts together. There is a question as to which of Old Wm's sons my branch came from, and we are trying to straighten that out now. Have a newsletter. Will be glad to send you a copy if you like. Keep up the great work. Duane Monkres Edmond, OK

Monkress-what else?

Cuz Kim,

Great to find your web page. Thanks for all the work you have done on our families. I am one of the lost legs of the family as I was told once. From "Old William" to John Muncas, then William who married Rebecca Lynch, then Solomon who married Alissa Stackhous, then Benjamin Franklin who married Maud Ketterman, then Thomas Franklin who married Mable Grace Porter, then my dad Clarence who married Fera Patterson [mom] then me.

I have been searching for our roots for several years and so far just like everyone else I have talked to, our line ends with 'Old William'. Please keep me informed and I'll do the same.
So long for now,
Cuz Stan Monkress-the only way to spell it. Ha!
